How to Style a Slip Dress with a Black Blazer

Ivory slip dress layered with an oversized black blazer for early fall

Ivory Slip Dress with an Oversized Black Blazer

For an early fall outfit, I layered the Olivia von Halle Issa ivory slip dress with an oversized black blazer. The strong shoulders and menswear-inspired shape give structure to the fluid satin dress, creating a graphic contrast between black and ivory.

A clear structured tote and sculptural black slide sandals preserve the restrained palette while adding a more modern, architectural element to the outfit.

The contrast in proportion is what makes this combination work. An oversized blazer with defined shoulders balances the narrow, fluid silhouette of a bias-cut slip dress. Wearing the blazer open preserves the long vertical line of the dress while still giving the outfit structure.

Keeping the remaining accessories black or transparent reinforces the monochrome palette. For cooler weather, the same outfit can be worn with sheer black tights, pointed ankle boots and a longer wool coat.
